Cultural and Historical

This style represents an interpretation of cultural ceremonial dresses, artefacts, civilisations or occasions throughout history. Items used can include copper and other metals, bamboo, feathers, grasses, leather, sea shells, other natural materials and specially printed fabric of native cultures. Often the creations are embellished with gem stones, beads, feathers, decorative braids etc. Designers often research their themes to create models as close to the reality as possible, sometimes employing original techniques. Though impressive in style and impact these were often heavy, void of much movement and difficult to wear. Modern materials have contributed to the underlying structure of these costumes now being much lighter and fun to wear. This category can also be seen as the inspiration of the creation of Kings and Queens of the carnival bands.
